EEOICPA eligibility screener
EEOICPA is the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act. It covers people who worked at Department of Energy nuclear weapons sites and later became ill. Benefits can include a lump sum payment and a medical benefits card.
Who does EEOICPA cover?
EEOICPA covers former employees and contractors at covered Department of Energy facilities. It also covers some uranium miners, millers and ore transporters. A surviving spouse or child may file when the worker has died. Employment at a covered site and a covered illness are the two things that matter most.
What is the White Card, and what does it pay for?
The White Card is the medical benefits card issued under Part B or Part E of the program. It pays for treatment of the accepted illness with no copay. For many families it also pays for in-home care, including 24-hour care, when a doctor certifies the need. That single benefit has kept many nuclear workers out of a nursing home.
How long does a claim take?
A straightforward Part B claim often takes several months. Part E claims and dose reconstruction cases can take a year or more. A free Resource Center will help you file at no charge. Keep every employment record, badge and medical report you can find.
The screener asks a few questions about where the person worked and what they were diagnosed with. Run the screener, or read more about how families pay for care.
